Let's Talk Puppy Kits

Let's talk Puppy Kits?

(This is long, but good I PROMISE!)

How many breeders offer their clients Puppy Kits when they purchase from you?

I always recommend new breeders start thinking of what to include for those anxious puppy buyers. (You can also purchase premade puppy kits online)

I like to personalize mine, and the good news is...... there are TONS of companies that offer **FREE** or highly discounted products if you "subscribe" or "sign up" with them through their Breeder Program.

Below are some of the things I personally include in my Puppy Kits to Buyers.

In a Folder: 1. Copy of their fully executed Contract (& spay/neuter certificate or agreement -if applicable)

2. Health Certificate (Federal US Law requires this documentation for any animal crossing state lines- should the transporter or family get pulled over and the cop be in a bad mood, without this piece of paper, they are at a HIGH risk of getting the dog confiscated to that local shelter to undergo quarantine for up to 14 days!!!)

3. Vaccination Health Check Record

4. Copies of any Health Clearances already performed on the pup Embark/Pawprint Genetic testing results, BAER (ears through OFA- can be done as early as 35 days old), CAER (eyes through OFA- around 4-6 weeks of age on), etc.

5. Microchip Information/ Number - I microchip puppies while in my possession still and remain as a contact on their chip for the life of the dog, as a security measure. 6. Pet Insurance Information (if applicable- see below for Trupanions FREE 30 day insurance to buyers)

7. Registry Paperwork (if applicable)

8. Letter to the New Owner - this is just kind of my "thank you" to them for trusting in my program, detailing the puppies information to date (include temperament testing comments in this if you so wish) I also include in this letter feeding instructions and some typical "behavior" things to watch for, as well as the added warning to not take the dog to public places until all inoculations have been completed and the dog is completely up to date on necessary vaccines, I include articles and my own write ups about basic trainings they can do (obedience, leash training, crate training, etc.). -- You can make this letter be whatever you want.

Then in a "basket" or customized bag, etc. Puppy Comfort Items:

Small bag of the food (typically enough for at least 2-4 weeks) this helps your buyers with the transitioning with their new family member if they so wish to change the dogs diet.

Puppy Toys : I include THREE options: teething toy, retrieving toy, & a stimulation toy

Puppy Blanket ** There are mixed peer reviewed articles regarding sending things with moms scent on it, some scientist say its fantastic and helps the puppy feel comfortable in their transition to a new home. While other articles say doing this can cause a deeper separation anxiety type behavior. Breeder can absolutely do what THEY feel is "correct" based on the puppies personality assessments***

EXTRAS: (Totally Optional) Crate Crate Mats/ Dog Bed Dog Tag (if the owners have already picked out/ or are keeping your litter theme names) Food/Water Bowls Collar and Leash Grooming Supplies (ie: brush, toothbrush, your favorite shampoo, nail trimmers, etc.)

As I mentioned above, in the beginning, there are a TON of companies that offer Loyalty or Breeder Programs and not enough people know about the astounding support we have from the companies we purchase from frequently anyway. Here are a few of my favorites and some others i've heard about over the years in our program:

BREEDER FREEBIES:

Kong - they don't offer a whole lot for breeders, however, their Breeder Registration (ONCE A YEAR) you can request their package which consists of: Tote Bags (25), Treat Samples & Information Booklets for the buyer to help them choose the right size toy for their new pup. https://www.kongcompany.com/breeder-registration

Trupanion Pet Insurance - Offers 30 days of free pet insurance to your buyers AT NO COST TO US when you register with them. They supply us (breeder) with a "certificate" of sorts to include in the folder with the pup that the Buyer can choose to obtain or not. Disclaimer: Buyer MUST claim within 24 hours of pickup. https://trupanion.com/ec/breeder/interested

Purina Pro Plan - has a great incentive program for breeders where you earn points on purchases made and can trade in for FREE products or gift cards for yourself.

Their Puppy kits include: Informational Booklets for Buyers, a reusable bag (to fill with dog food), coupons for free food and discounts on food, a food scooper and a small holder filled with poop bags! https://www.purinaproclub.com/

Royal Canin- They have an extensive program for their breeders with added bonuses when you refer buyers to them.

Puppy Kits include: Folder, Puppy Raising Info Booklet, 25% coupon for puppy food, Small pouch of food and a pretty nice Tote everything comes in. https://my.royalcanin.com/benefits/breeder/canine/promotions

Big Country Raw - Although they do not work with referrals or points, they do offer their breeders 30% discounts and LOTS of educational resources.

Puppy Kits include: A raw feeding Booklet and 4 pounds of packaged raw for the pup. https://bigcountryraw.ca/programs/breeder-program-dog/

Health Extension - This company is pretty amazing.. STALK THEM!!!!! They frequently (2x a year) offer a F-R-E-E "Welcome Home Kit" (retails for $50) with the code: "Welcome".... The puppy kit included: 4 bags (1 lb) of dog food, 2 types of treats (a jerky and a smaller crunchy round treat) a can of wet food and a 30 day supply of vitamins. https://www.myhealthextension.com/products/gift

Fish4dogs We absolutely LOVE this company....

They have some of the best Salmon Oil i've ever purchased anywhere else, there's a few treats as well that my dogs absolutely LOVE! ((they frequently have sales too, so watch them)). Puppy kits aren't shipped out until puppies turn 6 weeks old (so make sure you order these ASAP otherwise, we definitely forget about this amazing kit.

-- you can place your order at birth- so you dont forget and they will send it out at the pups 6 week mark-- The kits include some informational packets, a small 4lb bag of their Whitefish puppy kibble a few treat bags (cod sticks, squid bites, etc.) The kit is easily around $50 if you bought them individually so it's worth getting on their breeder list for these F-R-E-E kits (no limits, you can order as many as you want, as often as you want, and don't worry they don't spam you with sales emails either so SIGN UP!) https://fish4dogsus.com/pages/breeder

Kinetic Performance- They don't offer much in their kits, information packet regarding their formulas, it does include their health record folder which is useful to send home with the pups; there's a $5 off coupon and some decal stickers.

*This food is HIGHLY recommended by many Performance breed owners "serious dogs for serious people" type of dogs. High energy, High activity levels, etc.

I've personally yet to find the food at any local marts to me, so although i have these packets, i've yet to find it to try it ourselves. However, i'm including it for anyone interested in their programs.

((You do have to sign up as a Breeder with them before you can request these puppy packets --takes 2 minutes-- under the "programs" tab https://kineticdogfood.com/puppy-packet-request/

Eagle Pack - a max of 10 puppy kits is offered for free with them. (I have not used this company, so i'm not sure what is included in their packs, they do come highly recommended by the Gun Dog Owners though)

Nutrena - Offers 1 bag of Puppy food per litter and puppy kits (i assume it is like Purina, where you break the bag up to send with buyers)

Zignature - offers free food samples (they limit you to two and they are just sample sizes - but could be GREAT use as training treats for the new pups in their new home (or for you to keep on hand)

Taste of the Wild - We don't feed this, so i've never applied for their program, so im no help with what's included here, but here's the link if you're interested)) https://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/contact-us/.

Lupine- (Collars) - does have a breeder program, that i just learned about so although i have not used them yet, i plan to with my upcoming litters. Whelping collars, collars and leashes for sending the dogs home (nice way to keep themes going the whole time from birth to home with just that added little special touch). https://www.lupinedealer.com/content/breeder-program.php

BringFido.com - offers Free pet supplies periodically when you sign up for their newsletter.

Embark -offers breeders Litter Packages (Health & DNA) for $99/ea. with a minimum of 4 kits purchased. *****Thats $100 savings per kit******

If you know of any other great companies, please feel free to reach out, Id love to keep this post going to share with anyone and everyone.
