Things you should ALWAYS have on hand if you own a dog. Especially during the Warmer Temperature months especially)
If your dog is overheating more then liking it is suffering with a build up of phlegm in their throat.
If you squirt a few shots of lemon juice (I also have used Young Living's Lemon Essential oil at dog shows before) down the dogs throat.
The acidity of the lemon juice helps to dissolve the phlegm and in turn open up the dogs airway.
Sidenote: If the dog is in full shock you can rub the lemon juice on their gums with your finger as well to bring the dogs sugar back up rather quickly.
(Unflavored/Plain) Pedialyte (for dehydration), given rectally! --yup, i said it..... The Colder the better! This helps to bring down the dogs core temperature while hydrating the dog.
If you don't have that, cold water or ice cubes work as well, but be patient as most dogs overheating are not at all interested in drinking water or chewing ice, etc.
Rubbing alcohol is a fantastic product to keep on you at all time. Applied to the dogs belly, arm pits, pads and if a male dog, his testicles,
You can safely put rubbing alcohol all over the dogs body (avoiding eyes & nose) then cover the dog with a damp towel.
Why you ask?
Because rubbing alcohol pulls heat out of the muscles, if you cover them with a damp towel as well, this helps this technique work faster and keeps the alcohol from evaporating.
((Typically you'd want to buy the 91% Rubbing Alcohol but you can use the 70% as well with no problems))
As humans perspire, moisture on our skin evaporates and keep us cool.
******DOGS DO NOT SWEAT******* so this technique with rubbing alcohol helps to perform this task for them.
